Mixing Your Ingredients to Create This Strawberry Basil Spritzer

Muddle together the lime juice and the basil, allowing the two flavors to mix for a few minutes. Strain the lime juice from the basil leaf into a white wine glass. Add a tablespoon of strawberry syrup.

Pour white wine over the lime, basil and strawberry mixture. Top the drink off with some soda water.

Feel free to garnish the drink with fresh strawberries, basil leaves, or lime wedges.

How to Make the Strawberry Syrup

Strawberry syrup is simply made by combing 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of fresh chopped strawberries and 1/2 cup of water in a sauce pan. Simmer for 20 or so minutes. Strain large strawberry pieces from the sauce and allow the strawberry sauce to cool.

Tips on Muddling Herbs

Muddling herbs is the act of crushing the herbs until the herbs begin to become aromatic. Herbs are not meant to be crushed and broken apart. Instead gently crushing the herbs just enough to allow the infusion of the scent is the goal.

When muddling the basil, simply crush the basil enough to bruise the leaves. It is not necessary to crush the leaves to the extent that they break apart.
